The art of co-operation

Surfboard shaped by Leigh Hammond of 'Seadrift Surfboards', coloured by John Bampfield

I don't usually paint on surfboards.  So for me, this was a unique experience.  My son- in -law designed and shaped this board for me as a present, and though I've been surfing since 1967, this is the first board that I've ever had made especially for me.
Once Leigh had finished shaping the blank, the foam core of the board, he presented it to me to colour.
Using acrylic inks, and a small amount of acrylic paint, this is what I came up with.  After the nerve wracking experience of painting freehand on what was a pure white unblemished surface, that left no room for errors, the board was glassed and polished professionally to a glossy smooth finish.

Between us, I think we've managed to create something special and unique.

Something that I shall enjoy and treasure for years to come.  Thanks, leigh.
